Health Screenings Every Friday

You no longer have to schedule a doctor visit or wait for a health fair to find out about your cholesterol, glucose or vitamin D levels. These screenings are provided every Friday from 8:00 a.m. to Noon at United General Hospital. No appointment is required, simply come into the main lobby and let the receptionist know you would like to have a health screening. Checks, cash and credit cards are accepted.

CHOLESTEROL: Full lipid profile, $15. A 12-hour fast is required; water and medications okay. Results mailed to you and/or your doctor.

GLUCOSE: Included with Cholesterol Screening at no extra charge. Results mailed to you and/or your doctor.

VITAMIN D: $35. No fasting required. Results mailed to you and/or your doctor. Download a fact sheet about Vitamin D.

BLOOD PRESSURE: While you're in the lobby, take advantage of our free, conveniently located blood pressure machine.

About Cholesterol
Cholesterol is a soft, fat-like, waxy substance found in the bloodstream and in all your body's cells. It's normal to have cholesterol. It's an important part of a healthy body because it's used for producing cell membranes and some hormones, and serves other needed bodily functions. But too much cholesterol in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease, which leads to heart attack. It's also a risk factor for stroke.

What Are Healthy Levels of Cholesterol?
Your total blood cholesterol will fall into one of these categories:
Desirable: Less than 200 mg/dL
Borderline high risk: 200 - 239 mg/dL
High risk: 240 mg/dL and over
